Kevin Garnett, Paul Peirce, and Ray Allen look out. A new “Big 3” put on a free clinic for the Bradford Owls Tuesday night, accounting for a combined 59 points. Seniors Matt Shiner, Jarrin Campman, and Parker Herrington seemed to do no wrong by knocking down shots and driving to the basket with ease the entire game. The “Big 3” guided Clearfield to a 74-48 victory and an automatic bid in the PIAA State Playoffs with the win.
Things were somewhat tight early in the game before Matt Shiner and Parker Herrington both netted six of their game high 20 points apiece. The two Bison seniors sparked the team early and helped Clearfield jump out to 18-10 lead at the end of the first period.
In the second quarter Clearfield continued to build on their lead. Even a Bradford time out early in the quarter was unable to slow down the pace of the game as Jarrin Campman, Shiner, and Herrington were able to combine for 13 points in the quarter. At the intermission the Bisons found themselves up 32-21.
In the third quarter Clearfield really turned it on pouring in 23 points, with nine of them coming off the hot hand of Jarrin Campman (19 points overall). Jarrin’s younger brother Trey also hit a big time shot in the quarter, nailing a three, forcing Bradford to take a time out, and helping Clearfield take the game over for good. The score at the end of three stood at 55-35.
Clearfield continued to stay hot in the final frame with Campman and Shiner both pouring in five more points and sealing the victory. The Bisons “Big 3” took a look to the crowd with smiles as the left the game with 2:01 remaining as they realized they will make their second straight District 9 Championship appearance. When the final buzzer rang the Clearfield fans let out a loud cheer as they came away with a 74-48 victory.
