CLEARFIELD – Area firefighters fought to control a commercial fire at the Mt. Zion Recycling center at 64 Color Lane Thursday.
Engines and volunteers from all over came to combat the blaze: Clearfield, Oklahoma, Lawrence Township, Hyde, Glenn Richy, Goshen, DuBois City, Sandy Township, Houtzdale and Penfield active on scene.
The fire was alerted to at 12:47 p.m. and it was expected to be under control by 5:00 p.m. Thursday. The owner, Jim Hile, was not present at the scene at the time. There were no injuries to either volunteers fighting the fire or workers at the recycling center.
According to authorities a fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
Problems were limited to water coming from the hydrant that was quickly countered by tank trucks being on reserve. There was also a situation with the cellular communications system being down, but fallout from that was limited to the secondary text alert system.
