CURWENSVILLE — This season has not been a very good one for the Curwensville Lady Tide. Despite very good performances and much effort, they have no wins to show for it.
Inside Patton Hall, the Lady Tide had another opportunity to put a win on their record against the Lady Owls of Harmony. Unfortunately, the Owls kept a fast pace throughout the night that was too much for the Tide to overcome, ending in a 69-36 victory for Harmony.
Afterwards, Curwensville coach Vic Gearhart spoke of the effort that his team put out in the loss.
“Harmony likes to play an up-tempo game, and we are not built to compete with that. They got some fast breaks off turnovers and we just couldn’t keep up,” said Gearhart.
The Lady Tide were led in scoring by Hannah Walls with 11 points, while also gaining three rebounds and three assists.
“It took too long for Hannah to get into a rhythm and that hurt us
with momentum,” said Gearhart.
Jenae Stiles and Tess Bloom both accounted for six points each. Stiles also had a team high eight rebounds, despite only playing the second half. Gearhart said that her effort was the highlight of the evening for his team.
“Jenae put up a great effort tonight. She’s probably the shortest person on the court and yet she managed to grab all those boards,” said Gearhart. “She really played well tonight.”
The Lady Owls had three players in double-digit scoring, led by Alyson Leyo with 20 points. Lindsay Neff accounted for 15 while Makenzie Kruise added in 12 of her own. Leyo also led in rebounds for the Owls with eight, while Kiersten Kruise led in assists with five.
Gearhart said that in the end, what kept the Lady Tide from victory was an entire team effort.
“That was our worst effort of the year. We gave them too many second and third chances, couldn’t rebound and turned the ball over,” said Gearhart. “You can’t win when you make that many mistakes.”
Harmony also won the junior varsity game, 32-29.
Harmony (13-5) is back in action tomorrow night as they host Purchase Line. Curwensville (0-17) has a chance to even the series with Harmony as they will travel to take on the Lady Owls on Thursday.
