DUBOIS – The first of two public hearings involving Community Development Block Grant funding was held prior to the Sandy Township Supervisors’ meeting on Monday night.
Each year, Sandy Township, like other municipalities, submits a grant application to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and economic development for funding to improve the township. These improvements can range from infrastructure improvements to energy conservation projects. At least 70 percent of the 2009 allotment will be used to benefit low-to-moderate income people.
This year Sandy Township is asking the state for about $180,000. Last year Sandy Township asked for $181,124.
The supervisors are aiming to use this year’s money for the elimination of slums and blight, demolition and up to 30 percent of construction funding; continued efforts to provide water and sewer service to eligible areas of the township (including Maloney Road Water Project $60,000 and the balance of construction funding to Gateway Gardens Sanitary Sewer Project).
The second public hearing will be held on March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Sandy Township municipal building.
