SHIPPENVILLE – There’s a changing of the guard at the top of both the boys’ and girls’ RRR Roadhouse/D9Sports.com District 9 basketball rankings for the 2008-2009 season with Elk County Catholic taking over the top girls’ spot and Clearfield moving into the top boys’ position in the fifth installment of the 2009 rankings.
ECC (17-1) moves up from No. 2 following West Forest’s loss to North Clarion Friday night, while Clearfield (14-1) takes over the top spot from DuBois Central Catholic after the Cardinals fell to Greensburg Central Catholic last Saturday and then barely got past Curwensville Monday.
St. Marys (16-1) also moves from No. 3 to No. 2 in the girls’ overall rankings with West Forest (16-1) dropping to No 3 followed by Cranberry (15-3) and Coudersport (15-2) rounding out the Top Five in the overall rankings. Moniteau (12-5) jumps up from No. 9 to a tie for No. 7 after beating No. 7 Union (12-6), which fell into a tie at No. 7. Austin (15-2) also moves from No. 10 to No. 9 with Kane (13-5) dropping from No. 8 to No. 10.
DCC (14-2) drops to the No. 2 spot in the boys’ rankings with Keystone (15-2), St. Marys (11-5) and North Clarion (15-1) rounding out to the Top 5. Port Allegany (11-5) is a new addition to the boys’ Top 10 entering at No. 9. Both Punxsutawney and Bradford drop out of the Top 10, which actually had 11 teams in it last week.
In the Class-by-Class rankings, the ECC girls also move into the top spot in Class A with West Forest dropping to No. 2. The remaining No. 1s stayed the same in both the girls’ and boys’ rankings with St. Marys the top Class AAA/AAAA girls’ team, Cranberry the top Class AA girls’ team, Clearfield the top Class AAA/AAAA boys’ team, Kane (10-8) the top Class AA boys’ squad and DCC the top Class A boys’ team.
New teams into the class-by-class rankings include Moniteau (5-11) in at No. 4 in boys’ Class AA, Curwensville in at No. 5 in Class AA boys’ A-C Valley (7-11) in at No. 10 in boys’ Class A and Cameron County in at No. 10 in girls’ Class A.
These are the fifth RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com rankings for the 2008-2009 season. They are the next-to-the-last rankings for the 2009 season. The final rankings will be released next weekend.
