UNIVERSITY PARK – Former Penn State DuBois student Jonathan R. Crawford recently served as student marshal for the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) during fall commencement at the Bryce Jordan Center on Dec. 20.
A DuBois native, Crawford carried the college banner and led IST graduates into the ceremony. He was named marshal due to his academic achievement, participation in building the College of IST, extracurricular activities, character and leadership, and future potential.
Crawford was joined by Penn State DuBois IST Instructor Jason Long, who had the honor of serving as faculty marshal.
Crawford began his college career at Penn State DuBois, and studied there for three years before moving on to the University Park Campus. Long remembers Crawford as a promising student. “He did extremely well at DuBois,” Long said. “I know he worked very hard in his studies. I was very pleased to hear that he earned this impressive achievement.”
A veteran of the United States Army, Crawford served from 1999 until 2003, and was deployed to Iraq in 2003 for the initial invasion.
Currently Crawford is exploring different career paths in IST. “I’m interested in such opportunities as systems engineering, project management and consulting,” he said.
