Understanding Wildlife Program Set for Jan. 9 at Middle School

CLEARFIELD – Alligators, snakes, jungle cats, monkeys, parrots, macaws, amazons, cockatoos, and greys, which will all come from around the world, will make a trip to Clearfield.

And, these animals won’t be “talking puppets but the real thing,” according to a press release issued by Middle School Assistant Principal James Quick, Jr., who said the arrangements have been made for an appearance of Understanding Wildlife’s “LIVE ON STAGE, THE RAIN FOREST” to be showcased.

He said the Understanding Wildlife appearance is set for Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at the Clearfield Middle School.

Understanding Wildlife is a non-profit organization that travels from California to New York City with its rain forest program, according to the press release.

Animal trainers will give a presentation to Saint Francis students at 9 a.m. Two others have been slated for those at the Clearfield Middle School, as the students who are in the elementary buildings will hear a presentation at 10:30 a.m. and the middle school students at 1:30 p.m.

“They will explain how energy conservation and recycling will help save the animals that the children will be seeing,” Quick said in the release. He said their presentation will also cover other ways that people can help save the rain forests.

He said that “a wildly entertaining program” will be presented for the public at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Clearfield Middle School. He noted that students will be able to interact with a few of the animals.

“Ever pet a live alligator,” Quick asked, adding that the flying macaws, talking amazons and the sure to be mischievous monkeys will keep the audience laughing.

The program, which is open to the public, will cost $5 per person. Children who are 3 years old and younger will be admitted free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
