DuBois Man Waives Hearing in Assault Case

DUBOIS – A DuBois man accused of assaulting DRMC personnel waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Friday.

Damon Walsh, 21, is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and harassment.

According to the affidavit of probable cause on Oct. 31 at 7:39 a.m. a member of the DuBois City Police Department was dispatched to DRMC-West’s Intensive Care Unit for a combative patient who assaulted a security guard and an ICU nurse.

The officer learned from victims and witnesses that Damon Walsh was admitted to the hospital on the previous day for an alleged intentional overdose. At 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 31 he allegedly became alert and verbally aggressive. He reportedly ripped off monitors and pulling at his lines. He allegedly told an ICU nurse that he was not afraid to hit a woman as two nurses requested him to stop.

He reportedly became increasingly agitated and was cursing at the staff. The officer reported that Walsh grabbed the wrist of one person and began to twist it. He reported that Walsh then punched her in the right arm with closed fist and continued to curse and threaten to break everyone’s jaws and ribs.

According to the officer the woman suffered a bruised wrist, strained muscle and received treatment for her injuries.

The officer reported that Walsh then grabbed the arm of an ICU nurse as she attempted to calm her down. Walsh allegedly threatened to break her hand and it took another staff member to free her hand. She suffered a contusion to her hand and received treatment.

A security officer who assisted in calming Walsh was grabbed by the little finger. According to the officer Walsh bent the finger backward in an attempt to break it. The security officer received treatment for the injury.

The police officer also reported that Walsh pulled down an overhead light estimated at $100.
