CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville woman accused of stealing two computers from Northwest Savings Bank in Curwensville waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
Jessica Ann Vaughn, 24 of Curwensville, is charged with solicitation to commit crime or theft by unlawful taking, two counts of theft by unlawful taking and two counts of receiving stolen property.
According to court records on Oct. 12 relatives of Vaughn were cleaning out her trailer when they discovered items that did not belong to her. Several promotional items fro Northwest Savings Bank were discovered, as was a computer. Police were contacted and took possession of the items.
On Oct. 15 Tpr. Terry Jordan interviewed Vaughn at Clearfield County Jail. She reportedly told Jordan that she had a friend of hers go to the bank to pickup a box that had a computer and promotional items in it.
Vaughn told police that she worked on a cleaning crew at the bank. She allegedly told Jordan that the bank had some extra computers sitting around, “So I thought I would take one.”
According to the affidavit she said she got the idea from her supervisor. She said that he said the owner of the cleaning company came down from Bradford with a “Mexican” guy and that they took a computer or two. She told Jordan that she thought if they were doing it, why can’t she. She said the computers were sitting around, not being used.
She told Jordan that about a week before Jan. 15 she had another friend come to the bank after her supervisor left. She said that she let him in and that they went to an office and took a computer tower.
She was asked if anything else was taken and she told him no.
On Oct. 23 Jordan spoke with the second friend named by Vaughn about the stolen computers. The man told him that Vaughn was his wife’s friend and that he had gone to her place a couple of times.
He then told Jordan that he did not know anything about stolen computers. He was asked if he ever took a computer from Northwest Savings Bank and he told Jordan no. He was asked if he had ever been in the bank after hours and he told Jordan he had. He said that he and Vaughn went in to look for a password.
Jordan asked him if he hadn’t taken a computer from the bank why would he need a password. Jordan reported that the man told him that Vaughn had taken one from there and brought it to his house. He said they could not get into the computer without a password so they went to the bank and into the office the tower came from. Jordan asked him if he knew it was stolen and reported that the man told him he knew it was, but that he didn’t do it, Vaughn did.
Jordan received a waiver of rights and consent to search from the man then took possession of the computer at his residence.
On Oct. 27 Jordan reported receiving an email from an officer at Northwest Savings Bank. He reported the employee confirmed that the two computers belonged to the bank.
Vaughn is currently in Clearfield County Jail on other charges.
