Unpaid Hotel Taxes Cause CCRTA Budget Concerns

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority board’s latest budget draft brings good and bad news.

The good news is that with the help of a grant they have a balanced budget. That means the CCRTA board has an income and expenditure amount projected to be $444,440.00. The board is glad to have received the money they did through the grant considering it was their first time applying, but hadn’t received the full amount requested.

The bad new comes in from the hotel tax being in the negative $17k when estimates done by the board show the income from the hotel tax should have seen a revenue increase of 3 percent. The reason for this deficit is pinned on four hotels who haven’t paid the tax. The board didn’t name the hotels other than three are franchises. If more local solutions don’t solve the problem they are considering contacting the franchises the hotels belong to.

The Board of Directors also also approved allowing the BCI Municipal Authority to store shale for pending well access roads on the Wopsononick Parking Area. The CCRTA is in the process of trying to turn all visible water to the BCIMA for use. This will leave 500 acres for public uses. Currently it is in the process of eventually getting approval from DCNR because of the “open to the public” recreation clause agreed to when initially purchased.
