UNIVERSITY PARK – The election of the first African American president will be the focus of a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in 113 IST Building, University Park campus. Sponsored by the Black Graduate Student Association and the NAACP, the panel will feature Penn State faculty and is free to the public.
“The discussion will largely focus on the significance of electing our nation’s first black president, given the turbulent history of race relations in this country. What we’ll do is discuss those implications not just in the context of black America — but America as a whole,” said BGSA president J. Randall Cooper, a J.D. candidate in the Dickinson School of Law.
“So, it’ll be a conversation not only on what this means for the black plight, black youth and black patriotism but also what this means in terms of how we as Americans view ourselves, each other and this country going forward,” he added.
