Voter Turn Out Larger Than Normal in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD – A “larger than normal” voter turn out showed up at Clearfield County polling places to cast their historical ballot on Tuesday.

“We expected the turn out to be larger than normal, and it was,” Board of Elections Director Linda Clark said.

She said the county has 51,549 registered voters. She said that 34,334, or 66.6 percent took part in yesterday’s election.

Clark noted that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), who won the election, didn’t take Clearfield County, saying that almost 55 percent cast their votes for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

Clark said she believed the country’s happenings had voters interested in the election and brought them out to the polls.

She said some experienced waits “here and there,” but she said her office didn’t receive any complaints, as voters expected a line at the polls.

“I think Americans were just excited to get out and vote,” she said, adding everyone keys up for presidential election.
