LT Supers Look to Hold the Line on Taxes

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – With a planned budget of $2.974 million for next year, Lawrence Township Supervisors announced that the millage will remain at 18.

What allows the township to avoid increasing taxes was some revenue increase at the current rate, but also a reduction in staff in the police department. Nobody was fired but the township decided to keep the staff as-is instead of replacing those who either moved on to other things or had been promoted from part time. This leaves the department with nine full time employees and two part time.

The supervisors also approved a roughly 3 percent hourly wage increase for the positions of chief, sergeant and part time.

The supervisors also have started steps to consider two sets of new ordinances. One ordinance, a burn ban, would not ban burning per se, just regulate it a bit.

Another future ordinance may require a $10 a year contractor license for consumer protection and income. At $10 it is expected to bring in $2000 a year.
