Clearfield Bisons (3-1) at Lewistown Panthers (0-4)

As the seconds ticked off the clock last Friday night the Bisons came off the field with one of the biggest wins in recent history.  This week Clearfield (3-1 overall, 2-0 in league) will travel to Lewistown (0-4, 0-3) to take on the winless Panthers.  The Panthers have struggled to score this season, but do have a decent weapon at quarterback in senior Connor Muir who is coming off of a game in which he threw for over 130 yards and rushed for over 60 and a touchdown.  Muir’s favorite targets are junior A.J. Scheffel, sophomore Codey Wray, and senior Nicholas Beamendefer.

Clearfield’s emotional victory Friday night also saw senior running back Isaiah Morgan return to the form that made him one of the best running backs in the district as a sophomore.  Morgan is coming off a monster game in which he ran for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns against one of the top defensively ranked teams in the state.

If Morgan can get rolling again this game could be in the Bisons hands early.  Morgan wasn’t the only player who came up huge as senior quarterback Jarrin Campman came away with the District 9 player of the week honors for the fourth time in his career. The phenomenal play of the two seniors last week can greatly be credited to the Bisons offensive line who have provided running lanes and great protection all year.

The Bison defense has not been stellar by any means this season, but has made crucial stops when needed. Much of that is due to the success of senior defensive end Cruise Kerr and his team leading 6.5 sacks. Also seniors Nick Redden and Robert Faust caused havoc using their size to clog up running lanes.

With solid defense and offense the Bisons should have no problem handling the hapless Panthers and improving to a 4-1 mark.
