HYDE – After reaching double figures in hits only three times this season, none in their last seven outings, the Clearfield Chiefs racked up 15 safeties in the first four innings en route to a 15-3 win over Curwensville in Jefferson County Legion League action at the Bison Sports Complex Saturday evening.
James Zimmermann sparked the Post No. 6 team with a solo home run, two doubles and a single, while Parker Herrington cracked three hits, one a double, and drove in three runs.
Jarrin Campman and Adam Jury had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Zimmermann and Wil Bacharach also had two ribbies as manager Sid Lansberry\’s Chiefs hiked their third-place record to 7-5.
Corey Bookhamer pitched a five-hitter against the Haymakers for his first win in three decisions. The southpaw struck out seven and walked four.
Curwensville registered all of its runs in the third inning to make it a 5-3 game. Joe Bloom belted a two-run double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mark Dell\’Antonio.
Herrington countered with a two-run double in the bottom of the frame, and the Chiefs jumped on loser Ben McGary for eight runs on seven hits in the fourth. A run-scoring two-bagger by Campman was the lone extra base hit.
Zimmermann launched his homer in the first inning and doubled for an RBI in Clearfield\’s four-run second inning.
Brett Sutika had a pair of singles for Curwensville, which is 0-3 against Clearfield.
The Chiefs, 7-10 overall, visit Brookville for an important double-header against Laurel Eye Clinic Tuesday. The 6 p.m. opener will be the completion of a June 3 game suspended in the second inning because of rain with Clearfield leading 1-0.
