Jacoby Only New Dog Hollow Winner

STRONGSTOWN, PA – Josh Jacoby of Fernwood competed in his first Jeff Dick Home Sales Street Stock feature of the season on Trico Welding night and picked up the win Friday at Dog Hollow Speedway.

Repeat winners include Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey of Coalport in the Townsend Gas and Oil Late Models, Dan Angelicchio of Greensburg in the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Models, Tim Laughard of Vinco in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks and Merle Billiott of Cherry Tree in the Texas Auto Ranch Four Cylinder Sidewinders.

Shawn McGarvey and Randy Smithley led the late models to the start with McGarvey taking the lead and Smithley in second, for one lap. McGarvey continued to lead with Rick Strong now in second and Smithley in third with Billy Eash fourth.

The top four were nose-to-tail several laps, then Eash got past Smithley for third on lap eight before a yellow waved. On the restart McGarvey continued to lead, but Strong was right there and pressured McGarvey even more for the top spot as the duo raced hard for first, with Strong going to the outside of McGarvey and the pair running outside then he went to the inside and they battled side-by-side for several laps before the checkered flag finally fell with McGarvey winning by a half a car length over Strong. Eash topped Smithley for third and new comer Brent Johnson was fifth. Heat wins went to Shawn McGarvey and Billy Eash.

The Fastrak late models saw Dimitrius Karalagas and Justin Kann led the field to the start with Karalagas taking the lead and Roger Laughlin in second. The race saw Kann drop out with engine trouble on lap two and a rash of cautions slowed the race on laps two through four.

Karalagas continuing to lead until lap five, when Dan Angelicchio took the lead from his sixth place starting spot. Once he had the lead, he left his competitors, as he was hooked up. Gary Stahl and Laughlin then Tommy Snyder jockeyed for position for several laps before settling that battle. At the line it was Angelicchio taking his second win of the season over Stahl, Snyder, Laughlin and Chris Angelicchio. Heat wins went to Tom Snyder and Roger Laughlin.

Mike Laughard beat Tyler Hite into the first turn at the start of the street stock feature and led the race for five laps, holding off first Hite then Josh Jacoby. Jacoby was persistent though and took the lead from Laughard on lap six. Jim Boyer, from 14th, took second from Laughard on lap eight and set his sights on the leader. Boyer caught Jacoby after a lap nine caution and the top two had Laughard and hite with them to make a four car fight for the lead.

On lap 14 the caution waved, putting the race into extra laps with Boyer getting one final shot at Jacoby he went to the outside in turns one and two before getting too high, this allowed Hite and Laughard to get under him, but Boyer was determined to make the outside groove work, as he saw Jacoby do earlier to get the lead, with just a dash for the checkered flag to go Boyer poured it on coming out of turn four and grabbed second, but came up shot for the win. The top five were: Jacoby, Boyer, Hite, Laughard and Joe Kelley. Heat wins went to Tyler Hite and Denny Keener.

The pure stock feature saw Tim Laughard and Jeremy Shaffer lead the field to the start with Laughard taking the lead and Shaffer settling into second, for a lap. John Mazey moved into second and Shaffer fell to third as Mazey put pressure on Laughard. While the lead was being challenged so was third, as Marshall Detwiler was pressuring Shaffer for that spot and Rich Powell was coming from the rear, but at the end of the non-stop event it was Laughard getting his first win since opening night with Mazey, Detwiler, Shaffer and Powell completing the top five. Heat wins went to Jeremy Shaffer and Rich Powell.

The four cylinder sidewinders were sled to the green with Matt Weakland on the inside and David Rocker on the outside with Weakland taking the lead. As the race worked its second lap Jason Bialowas took the lead and was trying to keep the competition under control, but it wasn’t happening as he was passed with five laps to go by Merle Billotte. Billotte held off Bialowas the rest of the way to get the victory over Bialowas, Brennan McCracken, Rocker and Chris Yoder. Heat wins went to Jason Bialowas, Mark Maglett and Jesse Laughard.
