Clearfield Fire Department To Sell Two Engines

CLEARFIELD – At a special meeting Thursday night, members of the Clearfield Borough Council granted the fire department approval to sell two of its trucks, which will make room for the purchase of a new engine at a later time.

Fire Engine No. 4 will be sold to the Irvona Volunteer Fire Department for $10,501, while the Mahaffey Volunteer Fire Department will get Fire Engine No. 2 for $8,000.

“From my understanding, Mahaffey is in desperate need of a truck,“ Borough Operations Manager, Leslie A. Stott said.

Stott said she believed Irvona wanted its engine sooner than later as well.

Chief, Brett Owens was unable to attend the meeting but submitted a statement though Deputy Chief Dave Graham. “He supports selling both of the engines and said it wouldn’t result in a loss for the department.”

Councilman, Barry Reddinger expressed concern about its affect on the gallons per minute and asked if it could potentially cause a shortage.

“There wouldn’t be a shortage. It wouldn’t be affected,” Graham said.

He said the department preferred to sell the engines locally instead of overseas. “We wanted to help those here.”
