Sunnyside the Topic of Two Meetings Thursday Night

CURWENSVILLE – Two meetings held tonight may hold the key to the future of Sunnyside’s ethanol plant project in Curwensville.

At 6 p.m. the Curwensville Planning Commission will meet to review the site plan for the plant.

Following that meeting Curwensville Borough Council will meet to act upon recommendations made by the planning commission.

The Sunnyside project is one of three ethanol projects in Clearfield County; Bionol of Clearfield’s production plant and Swann Biomass’s Center for Excellence.

The Sunnyside project will be a waste coal powered plant at the old Howe’s Leather Co. site. Plans are for the plant to produce 80 million gallons of the fuel per year.

The project has been in the works for some time now. Recently some citizens in Curwensville have been voicing concerns about the amount of pollution, the proximity to school and the truck traffic and the economic feasibility of the project, among other items.
