High Country Arts and Crafts Fair Nearing

PENFIELD – The twentieth annual High Country Arts and Crafts Fair will take place July 13 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at “the Gateway to the PA Wilds,” S.B. Elliott State Park.

This mountaintop festival has become one of the area’s most popular summer events, drawing thousands of visitors from across the state.

The Past Exalted Rulers Association of Clearfield Lodge 540 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is the sponsor of High Country and they will be preparing their barbeque chicken dinners, as well as hot dogs, hot sausage and meatball sandwiches, pierogies, homemade pie, and will offer coffee and cold beverages.

The price of a chicken dinner is $7. For advance ticket sale information contact the Clearfield Elks Lodge at 814-765-5711. Tickets for the dinners can also be purchased at the Clearfield County Treasurer’s Office. Only 1,000 dinners will be sold.

And as always, homemade ice cream will be provided by the Susquehanna Antique Machinery Association of Luthersburg.

There will be 170 spaces filled with a wide variety of hand-made arts and crafts for sale, including: hand painted furniture, tole painting, wreaths, swags, jewelry, needlework, leather, saw art, floral arrangements, plants, wood crafts, bead work, soaps, candles, jams, jellies, ceramics, lawn ornaments and more.

The folks from DuBois will again be making their kettle corn and Bonnie Whaling and her spinners will be demonstrating how to spin wool.

Music and entertainment will be provided by the Moore Family Band, who has been with the festival for several years.

Organist Bob Guarino will be tickling the ivories on the front porch of the Pennsylvania Center. Strolling entertainment will be provided by accordionist Joe Serafini.

S.B. Elliott Park is off of Interstate 80 exit 111 and is near the “highest point on I-80 east of the Mississippi.”

Attendees are urged to bring lawn chairs. Although the park normally has plenty of picnic tables seating is at a premium during this event.
