Upper West Branch Triathlon Tests 37

CURWENSVILLE – Threatening to rain, 37 peope began and finished the Clearfield County Conservation District’s expanded Upper West Branch Triathlon.

The triathlon offered some new and old this year. It began at P.J. Bressler’s Bait & More seeing off more than 37 participants. Some people running Iron Man/Woman in doing all sections of the triathlon solo. Some in teams of two or more tagged out at each station. From the start was a 4.4 mile run to the Curwensville Civic Center, followed by a 5 mile trip down the Susquehana by either kayak or canoe. The final leg was a 15 mile ride back to Curwensville Lake’s beach.

Participants arrived from all over to join in the challenge. Some from Pittsburgh and Hellertown. The furthest coming from Winchester, VA. A father and son team of Roy and Army Lege.

“There aren’t too many races that involve paddling, biking and running,” said Roy Lege.

The first person across, and first iron man competitor, was Eric Millbrandt of Pittsburgh. Trish Smith of Hellerton was the first iron woman competitor to finish. The first team composed of locals Brian Lytle and Todd Winters.
