Businesses Delinquent with Hotel Tax on Hot Seat

CLEARFIELD – Hotels that have yet to pay the county’s hotel property tax are on the hot seat.

The Clearfield County Commissioners directed Solicitor Kim Kesner to contact district justices to file for payment from the entities that have yet to pay their hotel taxes.

“We have to follow through with this,” said Commissioner Mark McCracken. At a work session last week McCracken also commented on the subject.

“They’re really withholding money that isn’t theirs,” McCracken said. “It’s not coming out of their operating budget.”

“It’s not fair to the ones who have paid,” commented John Sobel, commissioner chairman.

Since the work session Harbaugh Associates of Cherry Tree have paid.

The hotel tax is an additional levy tacked on to people’s bills who stay at area in bedding facilities. That tax is then used to promote the tourism of the county.
