R.J. Corman Plans to Open Former Beach Creek Railroad

CLEARFIELD – The County Commissioners learned Jodi Brennan, Clearfield County planning director, received a letter from the Surface Transportation Board, of Washington D.C., stating R.J. Corman Railroad, Pennsylvania, intends to file a petition with them to open a 20-mile portion of the former Beach Creak Railroad.

“It will run from Wallaceton to Gorton in Snowshoe Township, Centre County,” County Solicitor Kim Kesner said.

He said the letter asked Brennan for comments on potential local impacts.

As a result, both Kesner and Brennan traveled the area, where the line would pass through.

“We couldn’t identify any concerns within Clearfield County,” he said.

Kesner said there would be a number of road crossings, and PennDOT would have to determine that impact.

He also noted the new railroad segment would pass through a former county bridge location.

“The county has no further responsibility at the location,” Kesner said. “It would be owned by R.J. Corman.”
