Both Lanes of Irvona Bridge Open

CLEARFIELD – PennDOT has completed repairs on the state Route 53 Irvona Truss Bridge and has re-opened it to both traffic lanes, with no weight restriction. The second lane on the bridge re-opened Tuesday around 3 p.m. PennDOT closed the bridge late last month and then re-opened the bridge to one-lane traffic last Wednesday after initial repairs.

Two full bridge crews from PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance have been working to repair the truss members (steel beams) both above and below the bridge deck.

The re-opening of the second traffic lane allows PennDOT to remove the temporary traffic signal that had been used to enforce the one-lane traffic pattern. The signal will be removed Wednesday morning. PennDOT thanks area motorists for their patience during this recent closure and restriction.

The bridge, built in 1940, is 274 feet long and carries 4,412 vehicles a day. It is located on SR 53 in the village of Irvona in southern Clearfield County.
