One Lane of Irvona Bridge Now Open
CLEARFIELD – PennDOT has completed sufficient repairs on the Route 53 Irvona Bridge to re-open it to one lane, with no weight restriction. This will allow PennDOT to lift the 25-mile detour. PennDOT closed the bridge last week after an annual, in-depth inspection.
Two full bridge crews from PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance have been working to repair the truss members (steel beams) both above and below the bridge deck.

Clearfield Man Accused of Stealing Over $13,000 Worth of Equipment from PPL Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of stealing over $13,000 worth of equipment from PPL Gas waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
James Troxler, 20, is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.
According to court records officers in the Clearfield Borough Police department were called to PPL on Technology Drive on Sept. 10 concerning a burglary. Police spoke with an employee who told them that a window from one of the garage doors at the rear of the building had been removed.

Campbell has Hearing, All Charges Bound to Court
CLEARFIELD – A Houtzdale man accused of killing his mother on March 13 over a computer had all charges bound to court Wednesday after a preliminary hearing.
Jesse James Campbell, 20, is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.
The first person to take the stand was Campbell’s girlfriend at the time. She said that Campbell stayed with her but lived with his mother.
She testified that Campbell had two arguments over the phone with his mother regarding money that she allegedly owed him and a computer of hers that Campbell was in possession of. She said that Campbell’s mother, Cindy Jo Coleman, threatened to call the police on both the woman and Campbell.
After one phone call she said that Campbell said, “I want to kill that bitch.”

Fatal Accident Reported in Morris Township
MORRIS TOWNSHIP – State police in Clearfield reported a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday night.
A 25-year-old Philipsburg man was traveling south on state Route 53 when he struck the guide rail on the west berm just south of SR 2030, causing passenger, 25-year-old William Golding of Philipsburg, to be ejected from the vehicle.

Two People Injured in Sandy Township Accident
DUBOIS – Two people were injured in an early-morning accident on May 1.
According to DuBois-based state police reported that Henry Alfieri of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and John Anderson of Alliance, Ohio were traveling eastbound in the right lane of Interstate 80. Alfieri was traveling 35 miles per hour. Anderson came upon the slower moving vehicle and struck it in the rear.
Alfieri suffered major injuries, Anderson suffered minor injuries.

DuBois City Council in Favor of Proposed House Bill
DUBOIS – DuBois City Council approved sending a letter to House and Senate members regarding a proposed House Bill bill would allow some municipalities to apply for a grant to reimburse municipalities for services given to tax exempt properties.
The funding for the legislation would come from the 18 percent tax on wine and liquor sales. This currently generates about $240 million a year for the state’s general fund.
The bill could potentially affect up to 600 municipalities. In Clearfield County, those municipalities could be: Bigler Township, Burnside Township, Clearfield Borough, Covington Township, Curwensville Borough, the City of DuBois, Girard Township, Goshen Township, Huston Township, Karthaus Township, Lawrence Township, Lumber City Borough, Morris Township, Osceola Mills Borough, Pine Township, Union Township and Wallaceton Township.

DuBois Facade Grant Winners Announced
DUBOIS – Julie Stewart of the Downtown DuBois Revitalization Group announced the businesses that won facade grants at Monday night’s meeting of DuBois City Council.
The façade grant program runs for four years. According to Stewart the grant is a 50/50 matching grant, with businesses having the option to ask for up to $5,000.
This is the first year of four that the DuBois Main Street Program will administer the façade grant. Each year the DuBois Main Street Program gets $30,000 to administer through the façade grant on a first come, first serve basis.

CASD Looks at State Board’s Proposed Graduate Competency Assessment
CLEARFIELD – Due to questions surrounding available funding, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors discussed its opposition against the State Board of Education’s proposal to require a new graduate competency assessment at Monday night’s regular meeting.
Board Vice President Dave Glass said the state board can enact any changes, and the Pennsylvania School Board Association has asked the board to state its opposition.
According to the state board’s proposal, the new high school graduation requirements would apply to all public schools and necessitates students demonstrate proficiency in English, math, science and social studies by the time they graduate. The new requirements would go in effect with the 2014 graduating class.

Girl Accidentally Shot in DuBois
DUBOIS – A 13-year-old girl was taken to a hospital following an accidental shooting on Friday.
According to DuBois-based state police the girl came into a possession of a .45 caliber revolver. She was not supervised and shot herself in the head.
Police stated that at this time all indications point to an accidental shooting. The girl was taken from the scene by emergency medical services and flown to an unidentified hospital for treatment.
