Free Mammograms Available for Uninsured Women

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Hospital and Adagio Health are teaming up to provide free mammograms to women who cannot afford one.

“No woman should go without a mammogram because of financial hardship. Mammography is currently the most effective method of early detection of breast cancer. We’re proud to partner with Adagio Health to ensure all women who need a mammogram can receive one,” stated Darlene Rowles, imaging supervisor for Clearfield Hospital.

On May 28 at Clearfield Hospital, a free screening mammogram will be provided to women who meet the following criteria:
• They have no insurance.
• Their insurance will not cover preventive screening (such as Medicare Part A) or has a deductible that would be a financial difficulty.
• Must be between the ages of 40 and 64.
• Must meet income eligibility guidelines.

Registration is required. To schedule an appointment and obtain income eligibility guidelines, please contact Adagio Health at 765-9677 by May 21.

Rowles said women should have yearly mammograms starting at age 40. She said women should also have a clinical breast exam during a periodic health exam, every three years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over. Monthly breast self-exam is also important.

Clearfield Hospital and Adagio Health are able to provide free mammograms thanks to funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s HealthyWoman project and Komen Pittsburgh Race for a Cure Mammogram Voucher Program.
