CLARION – Dr. Jeanne Slattery and Dr. Dave Schlueter, professors of psychology at Clarion University; senior psychology majors, Ashley Valone and Cait Tomeo; and senior education major, Catherine Paden, were presenters at the 2008 Eastern Psychological Association Conference at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, Mass. Ten additional students from Clarion University’s Psychology Club also attended the conference.
Paden, Valone, and Slattery presented the results of their research, “Therapeutic Program for Children with ASD: Changes in Problem Behaviors.” They reported that a five-week summer camp for children with autism spectrum disorders reduced the severity of behavior problems reported by their parents.
Paden is a daughter of Judith Paden of Brookville and is a graduate of Brookville High School. Valone is a daughter of Patricia Haley of Erie and is a graduate of North East High School.
Tomeo and Schlueter presented the results of her research, “Does Gender Influence Judgment on Perceived Dishonesty in Relationship.” They reported that gender does influence judgments under some circumstances.
Tomeo, a senior psychology major, is a daughter of Dave and Carolyn Tomeo of Corsica and is a graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School.
Clarion University Student Senate provided funding for the students to attend the conference, supplemented by Psychology Club fundraising throughout the year.
