Penelec Employees Support Local Food Banks

CLEARFIELD – During the month of March, Penelec employees in Clearfield, Philipsburg and DuBois raised money and collected food as part of the annual ‘Harvest for Hunger’ program. Employees raised over $1,500 for local food banks. Penelec began the Harvest for Hunger program in 2002 and have collected more than $7,400 since then.

This year, Penelec partnered with the CPCA on a new program called Phoneraisers. This program allows nonprofit organizations to raise money by collecting used cell phones and inkjet printer cartridges that are then recycled.

The public is encouraged to donate those items to any of the four Clearfield County Community Action offices which are located at 207 E. Cherry Street in Clearfield, 40 Terrace Drive in Houtzdale, 14 S. Front Street in Philipsburg, and in Dubois at 101 S. Jared Street. Food Pantries in the eight school districts in Clearfield County will then be able to purchase paper products and foods not allowed under the State Food Purchase Program.
