Foreigner, Cinderella and Warrant Round Out Fair Lineup
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Fair and Park Board is pleased to announce a star-studded lineup for the 2008 fair. The Fireman’s Parade will kick off the fair on Monday, July 28, with a gigantic fireworks display to follow. Grandstand seating for the parade is included with gate admission and will be on a first come, firs serve basis.
Foreigner is slated to rock the fair Tuesday, July 29. Curwensville Man Found Guilty of Various Sex Crimes
CLEARFIELD – A Curwnensville man accused of having sex with a boy and another person was found guilty following his trial on Tuesday.
Terry Lee Kougher was found guilty of two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, two counts of statutory sexual assault, nine overall counts of corruption of minors, two counts of indecent assault and 11 counts of other sex crimes.
The case came to light after a former adolescent counselor reported that a 15 year old boy told her that he had been having a sexual relationship with Kougher.

Altoona Man Accused of Identity Theft Waives Rights to Hearing
CLEARFIELD – An Altoona man accused of multiple counts of identity theft waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Robert Francis Voigt faces 26 counts of identity theft, 25 counts of theft by deception and 25 counts of access device fraud.
According to court records Voight worked at a car dealership in Altoona. A Clearfield County man went there to purchase a vehicle. Voight had access to the man’s name, date of birth and social security number. Voight reportedly used that personal information to apply for credit cards. He received one from Orchard Bank.

Presentation Given on Chesapeake Bay Strategy on CMA
CLEARFIELD – Members of Clearfield Borough Council and the Lawrence Township Supervisors heard about potential changes to their sewage treatment plant.
The proposed changes are due to an agreement the state signed with the Chesapeake Bay Partnership in 2000. In 2004 the state adopted the Chesapeake Bay Strategy, which calls for nutrient reductions from agriculture, forestry and waste water treatment facilities.
In late 2006 DEP notified 184 WWTF’s in the state of future nutrient limits. Compliance deadlines were set in place based on treatment plant capacity.

Brockway Man Charged with Third Degree Murder as a Result of Double Fatal on SR 219
SNYDER TOWNSHIP – A Brockway man has been charged with two counts third degree murder after an incident that occurred on state Route 219 on March 21 claimed two lives and seriously injured another person.
According to DuBois-based state police 33-year-old Eric Patrick Veltri was also charged with DUI, aggravated assault, two counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, two counts of homicide by vehicle, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, reckless driving and numerous summary traffic violations.

Accidental Death Reported in Cooper Township
COOPER TOWNSHIP – State police in Clearfield reported an accidental death that occurred in Cooper Township.
On Tuesday afternoon William D. Schmoke, 60 of Kylertown, was reparing the right front wheel of a vehicle.
According to police the floor jack Schmoke was using apparently failed, causing the vehicle to fall on him. He was later discovered by family members.

Curwensville Woman Waives Right to Hearing on Theft, Forgery Charges
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville woman waived charged with stealing another woman’s checkbook and writing multiple checks waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Natalie Kephart is charged with theft by unlawful taking, three counts of theft by deception, three counts of receiving stolen property, three counts of forgery, three counts of identity theft and related charges.

Community Turns Out to Services Held for Victims of Brockway House Fire
BROCKWAY – Over 1,200 people attended services held on Monday for those who died in a housefire on Thursday.
Kimberly Peterson, 40-years-old; Rebecca Peterson, 17-years-old; Douglas Peterson III, 13-years-old; Isaac Peterson, 8-years-old; Grace Peterson, 6-years-old; Lillian Peterson, 11-months-old; Cailyn Watson, four-months-old; Desirre Delullo, 2-years-old; Domanic Delullo, 4-years-old; and Jason Mowry, 19-years-old, all lost their lives as a result of the fire.
According to reports Jason Mowry had escaped but went back in to try to save others.

County Commissioners Endorse Local Workers with Letter to Rendell
CLEARFIELD – In order to ensure the most impact on the local economy during the construction of the county’s ethanol facility, the Clearfield County Commissioners, collectively, agreed a letter be written to Gov. Edward G. Rendell to endorse area workers.
“It’s a two-year, $275 million dollar project,” said Commissioner Mark McCracken. “We’d like to see the most impact here. It’s not only about the jobs after the construction, but also those during the construction phase.”
He said the board has maintained the opinion that as many of the construction jobs as possible go to local workers.

Sandy Supers Approve Conditional Mining Permit for Amerikohl Mining
DUBOIS – After an executive session to deliberate, the Sandy Township Supervisors approved a conditional use permit for Amerikohl Mining Inc.
Amerikohl Mining Inc. proposed surface mining for coal on property located off of Larkeytown Road, Wayne Road and West Long Avenue. The company is looking to use the upper area of West Long Avenue as the only access point to the 552 acre project. Transport trucks would use West Long Avenue, then Larkeytown Road to get to state Route 830, and from there Interstate 80.
A public hearing was held over two sessions to hear from citizens and representatives from Amerikohl. The supervisors made their decision at Monday night’s special hearing and followed up by approving the conditional use permit.
