CAST Urges Cyclists to get Ready to Ride for Tour de Parks

CLEARFIELD – CAST suggests you get out your bicycles and get them ready for the “Tour de Parks” bicycle ride on May 4.

The ride is being sponsored by the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) as a fun event for riders of all levels. It will be on the dirt and gravel roads throughout the scenic Moshannon State Forest, with the cooperation of Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The ride begins at SB Elliott State Park (just north of Exit 111 of I-80, nine miles north of Clearfield) and will include three ride options for riders of different levels and riding interests:

Option 1 is 5 miles and begins at 1:30 p.m. This is a short ride for the casual rider. Option 2 is 16 miles and begins at 1 p.m. This is a moderate ride with several hills.

Option 3 is 38 miles and begins at 12 noon. This is a ride for the die-hard bikers that includes Parker Dam State Park and numerous hills.

Anyone who registers for the “Tour de Parks” will be eligible to win a 19-inch Insignia high definition flat screen LCD television. The three riders collecting the most sponsorship money (optional) will also be eligible for additional prizes.

Ride day registration begins at 11 a.m. at Pavilion 2 in the park. Registration cost on the day of the ride is $20 for adults and $12 for those riders under 16.

People can pre-register for the ride, which guarantees you a ride T-shirt, at a discounted cost of $15 for adults and $10 for those under 16. The pre-registration pamphlets are available in several area sporting goods stores. Forms are also available to download from the CAST Web site. The pre-registration cut-off date is April 18.

All riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and riders of all ages must wear a helmet.

Rest stops with food and drinks will be manned throughout the ride and at the start/finish and the ride will take place rain, snow, sun or mud!

Anyone wishing to be a ride sponsor or volunteer, or potential riders with any questions should contact the CAST office at 765-4474 or email the office at cast@clearnet.net. You may also call Jerry Stewart at 765-2539.
