County Commissioners Approve CDBG Application

CLEARFIELD –Due to pressing need, Wallaceton Borough and Bradford Township will receive funding for their water system projects through the Clearfield County Community Development Block Grant in 2008, as the board of commissioners approved the application Tuesday.

Lisa Kovalick, planning department manager of the Central Pennsylvania Community Action Agency, sad the county intends to submit an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for proposed funds in the amount of $298,150.

She said Wallaceton Township and Bradford Township would each receive $122,241 for their projects.

Kovalick said Wallaceton Borough is replacing its entire water distribution system.

Joan Robinson-McMillen, commissioner, noted the water system didn’t meet the Department of Environmental Protection’s standards.

“They’re under a lot of pressure from DEP,” Mark McCracken, commissioner, said.

Kovalick said the new water system would serve 409 individuals.

She said Bradford Township plans to extend its current water line to serve 201 residents who live on the Shiloh and Houser roads.

Kovalick said the total cost of Wallaceton Borough’s water system replacement project is $3,610,941, while Bradford Township’s water line extension is priced at $1,927,244.

“Five projects did apply,” Mark McCracken, commissioner, said.

He said Kovalick did a nice job during the review and selection process.

“These communities have the most pressing and immediate needs,” McCracken said.
