Clearfield Bar Association, Legal Eagles Recognized

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Bar Association presented a County Bar Recognition Award to the Clearfield County Bar Association during the 42nd Annual Seminar of the Conference of County Bar Leaders, Feb. 29, in Hershey.

Recognized for its Legal Eagles program, the Clearfield County Bar Association is one of 28 local bar associations in Pennsylvania honored this year for sponsoring projects that improve the legal profession, justice system or community. The awards are presented annually by the PBA.

“The Pennsylvania Bar Association is very proud to recognize Pennsylvania lawyers who lead and actively participate in programs that improve their communities and better the legal profession and our justice system,” said PBA President Andrew F. Susko. “It is our hope that the County Bar Recognition Awards will encourage even more legal professionals to become engaged and to be part of the organized bar’s collective spirit of activism.”

Legal Eagles teaches students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades about various aspects of the law and about personal responsibility via guest speakers. Now in its seventh year, the program is offered in all but one school district in Clearfield County. Each year, approximately 50 to 70 speakers visit the schools. Legal Eagles is a self-supporting program with local sponsors donating time, materials and money for its ongoing operations. In the past year, $10,000 was raised to fund the ongoing operation of the program. More information is available on the Legal Eagles’ Web site.

Founded in 1895, the Pennsylvania Bar Association strives to promote justice, professional excellence and respect for the law; improve public understanding of the legal system; facilitate access to legal services; and serve the 29,000 lawyers who are members of the association.
