Rep. George: Apprenticeships Available

HARRISBURG, Feb. 21 – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County said carpentry and electrical apprenticeship opportunities are available for qualified Clearfield County residents.

“No jobs are guaranteed, but the apprenticeship programs offer valuable training opportunities that could result in well-paying careers,” George said.

The Carpenters’ Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee of Greater Pennsylvania will accept applications for carpentry apprenticeships from 9-11:30 a.m. at the following dates and locations:

? March 3 at the Holiday Inn of Clarion, Interstate 80 at Route 68.

? March 10 at the Holiday Inn of Johnstown, 250 Market St.

? Various dates in March at the Carpenters’ Training Center, Neville Island, Allegheny County.

No applications by phone or mail will be accepted. Applicants must be at least 17, have a valid driver’s license and pay a non-refundable, $25 processing fee payable by check or money order to the Carpenters’ Joint Apprenticeship Committee when they apply.

Selected applicants will undergo job-related aptitude testing and interviews. Final selections for the Heavy Highway and Railroad Carpenters training program will be made before April 25 and based on the needs within western Pennsylvania. Employment, when available, will be through Carpenters Local 2274’s referral system.

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Number 5 and the Western Pa. Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association are offering electrical apprenticeship opportunities.

Applications will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8, at the Clearfield Training Center, 1400 Leonard St. in Clearfield. All applications must be picked up in person and completed at that time. A non-refundable, $25 check or money order payable to the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee is required with the submitted application.

Applicants must be 18 as of June 30, be a high school graduate or hold a GED and submit copies of their high school tran scri pt – not the diploma – or the GED with scores.
