Lawrence Township Supervisors Eye Possible Zoning Change

CLEARFIELD – A possible zoning change is in the works for one part of Lawrence Township.

That news came during the Lawrence Township Supervisors meeting on Tuesday. The topic was brought up by Zach Lawhead, township code enforcement officer.

“It’s something we need to discuss,” said Zach Lawhead.

The supervisors are looking change the zoning in the county’s Professional Office Park on Leonard Street. The change would some of the commercial zoned area and residential suburban zone area to residential urban.

According to Zach Lawhead this would open the park to more similar businesses to the ones that already exist, as well as make the zoning in the area uniform.

Zach Lawhead stated that it would open up the area to more multi-family dwellings, public parks, colleges and universities, and allow conditional uses for schools, medical clinics and other items.

Included in that area is the Cornfield Site, an area that saw a potential zoning change in 2007 with BioEnergy International LLC looking to build an ethanol plant there. The supervisors decided not to change the zoning at that point to limited industrial.

“If anyone is going to develop that it needs to be changed,” said Bill Lawhead, supervisor chairman.

Other areas included in the proposed change run from left road to the Multi-Service Center, behind the Clearfield Mall the Susquehanna River. From there it will follow the river and run up to Clearfield Creek.

Two projects proposed in the Professional Office Park are the new Department of Public Welfare Building and Jewels Court.

Before any change can be made, at least one public hearing must be held.
