New Superintendent Takes Over at the DASD

DUBOIS – Larry Robb takes over as substitute superintendent for the DuBois Area School District beginning Thursday.

He will act in that position until Sept. 10. On Sept. 11, Robb will become the district’s superintendent. His contract will expire on June 30, 2013. Robb’s salary will be $115,000 per year.

Robb was hired in October to take over for retired Superintendent Sharon Kirk. Robb was born in DuBois. He moved to Kittaning at age 10 and graduated from Kittaning High School in 1984. He is married and has four boys.

Robb graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1988 with a bachelor of science in mathematics/actuarial science. He then graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1990 with a bachelor of science in mathematics education. He received his masters of education and earned his Principal’s certification in 1999 from St. Francis College. He received his Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2007 and is currently working on a doctorate in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; dissertation topic: A Comparative Study of High School Principal’s Transformational Leadership and Instructional Leadership Skills Between High Performing and Low Performing Schools in Western Pennsylvania Rural School Ditstricts.

Robb has worked mainly in the Armstrong School District, serving as coordinator of curriculum, instruction & assessment, coordinator of mathematics, Principal of the Kittaning High School, and Principal of West Shamokin High School. In the Kiski Area School District he served as Assistant Principal of Kiski Area High School, and mathematics teacher, and at DuBois Area High School he was a mathematics teacher.

Kirk stepped down Dec. 9, 2007. She will act as a consultant with the district until her contract is up in May. In the interim, Timothy Deluccia, administrative assistant to the superintendent served as substitute acting superintendent.

Deluccia was praised by board member Thomas Repine for his work since Kirk stepped down. Most recently Deluccia and the rest of the administration dealt with a power outage at Sykesville Elementary School and the death of DuBois Area High School math teacher Ben Friedl.

Board President Louis Russell thanked Deluccia and the rest of the administration for their work during the difficult times the district has faced recently.
