Seniors Lead the Way on Senior Night as Bisons Pound Lewistown 50-22

CLEARFIELD – Head Coach Jeff Aveni wanted his seniors to go out with a bang in their last home match, and they didn’t disappoint – all three seniors recorded falls in a surprisingly dominant Clearfield win. For the Clearfield seniors, Richie Queen’s fall came at 1:19, Kasey Casher’s at 2:30, and Lee Zalno needed just 51 seconds.

Aveni was immensely pleased with the outcome, and with his seniors in particular. “These seniors have been with us through it all…they were here last season when we went 3-10, and they have led our turnaround this season. I really wanted to see all of them go out with a win.”

Clearfield also got a fall from Sean Owen, raising his record to 22-1, and Andrew Hill. Adding major decisions were Derek Danver and Shawn Hall, winning 10-0 and 9-1 respectively. Holden Lowe won 4-1, Andre Buck won a very exciting match 9-7, and Kodie Lowder won by forfeit. Clearfield won 10 of the 14 bouts on the evening.

Amongst the losing Bisons, most notable was Andrew Spicer at 119, who faced #1-ranked Matt Snyder. Snyder locked up a cradle and pinned Spicer at 3:16.

With the win Clearfield improves to 6-2, with a 4-match winning streak, while Lewistown drops to 3-9 for the season. “Lewistown has competed with everyone”, said Aveni. “I think this may be their worst loss of the year – everything is really coming together for us, and at the right time. With St. Mary’s, Brookville, Altoona Duals, and districts coming up, these are the big matches and I feel really good about where we are right now as a team. We’ve set goals, we’re busting our butts in practice and in meets, and we’re ready to finish strong.”

Clearfield travels to St. Mary’s next Tuesday looking to stay unbeaten in D-9 dual meets. The match is set to begin at 7:30.
