Bison Cagers Come Away with Much Needed Victory

Hyde– Clearfield needed badly to get back on the winning track after dropping two of their last three games.  They were able to do just that Monday night when they took on the Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties in a non league game coming away with a 58-39 victory.

The Bisons were able to jump out to an early lead with Matt Shiner netting 7 of his game high 18 points in the quarter.  The Mounties kept it close by trailing 15-9 at the end of the first period.

In the second quarter the Bisons continued to maintain the lead and were able to get key baskets from Todd Hryn and Parker Herrington.  Clearfield was able to increase the lead to double digits at times, but were able to go up nine 28-19 at the half.

The Bisons came out hot in the second half getting clutch baskets from Herrington and Shiner as the two combined to score twelve of the Bisons eighteen points in the quarter.  The Bisons were able to limit the Mountie offense to only nine points in the quarter. At the end of the third period the Bisons lead 46-28.

In the fourth period the Bisons looked as if they had taken tips from the Penn State men\’s basketball team on how to blow a large lead late in a game, as Philipsburg was able to cut the game to single digits with three minutes to go.  Fortunately for Clearfield they were able to hit a few key baskets down the stretch and come away with a win.

The Bisons will be back in action again Wednesday at home when they take on St. Marys in a District 9 League game.
