Sheffield Lady Wolverines Top Lady Tide 46-29

CURWENSVILLE – Sheffield’s girls basketball squad made the long trip to Curwensville worthwhile Friday night as they picked up their eighth win of the season 46-29 against the Lady Tide. The Lady Wolverines, coached by Lee Goldthwaite, are now two games over .500 and stand at 8-6 on the year. Curwensville is still searching for that elusive first win as they slide to 0-14 under head coach Vic Gearhart.

The victory by the Lady Wolverines also ends Curwensville’s streak against them. The Lady Tide had won the last three against their northern Pennsylvania foes.

As the Tide have done the past several games they made it close for one and a half quarters and trailed only 11-10 midway through the second period. Then things started to go wrong for the Lady Tide, as Sheffield outscored their hosts 38-19 the rest of the way.

Sheffield, with an 18-8 advantage in the second quarter, had a 27-14 edge after the first sixteen minutes. The Lady Wolverines put the game away in the third frame outscoring the Tide 14-4 for a 23 point bulge heading into the final eight minutes.

Amanda Craker scored 14 and Tess Vargas chipped in with 10 to lead the Lady Wolverines. Sophomore Tess Bloom paced Curwensville with 12. Bloom was 6 for 6 from the free throw line for the evening. The Lady Tide played without starter Alesia Bressler due to a sprained ankle.

Sheffield made a clean sweep of the evening as they also won the Junior Varsity game 38-15.
