COOPER TOWNSHIP – State police in Clearfield reported a fatal accident that claimed the life of a Shenandoah woman occurred on Interstate 80 near mile marker 138 late Friday night.
A vehicle driven by Carissa Waiksnoris of Shenandoah was traveling east. Police report that she traveled off the north berm and back onto the road and across both lanes of travel. She then went off the south berm and struck an embankment. Her vehicle spun clockwise and Waiksnoris was ejected from the vehicle.
A vehicle driven by Meadville resident Thomas Everett was also traveling east in the right lane and was approaching The Walksnoris vehicle. He traveled into the left lane in attempt to avoid Walksnoris’ vehicle, but struck Waiksnoris, who was lying in the left lane of travel.
A passenger in the Walksnoris vehicle reported minor injuries. Waiksnoris was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt.
Police were assisted at the scene by Winburne Fire Department, PennDOT, Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services and Folmar’s Towing.
