Clearfield Borough Awarded Grants for Fire, Police Departments
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Police Department and Clearfield Fire Department were awarded grants to help in their operations.
Clearfield Borough Mayor Patty Gilliland announced that the fire department was awarded $25,000, and the police department was awarded $10,000.

BioEnergy Reps. Speak at CCEDC Annual Meeting
DUBOIS – Members of the BioEnergy staff spoke at the Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation’s annual meeting Wednesday at the DuBois Country Club.
Sam McConnell, vice president of business development discussed the path the BioEnergy project has taken, as well as where it is going.
“We’re truly on the verge of going full-scale on this in the coming weeks,” said McConnell.

Bionol Accepting Bids for Clearfield Ethanol Project
CLEARFIELD – The engineers for Bionol Clearfield LLC will begin accepting bids on $250 million ethanol project located in Clearfield Borough.
The project includes $17.4 million from state investments. The package includes a $400,000 grant through the Opportunity Grant Program, $500,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits, $2.5 million in loans and grants from the Infrastructure Development Program and $14 million through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

Former Curwensville Area Insurance Agent Charged in AG Case
HARRISBURG – Attorney General Tom Corbett announced that agents from the Attorney General’s Insurance Fraud Section have filed criminal charges against a Cambria County man accused of stealing more than $91,000 in annuity and insurance monies from clients and businesses.
Corbett identified the defendant as William M. Elensky, Jr., 34 of Ebensburg. Elensky is the former owner of Elensky Insurance Agency, located in Curwensville, Clearfield County.

Clearfield Borough Takes Stance Againts I-80 Tolling
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council approved sending letters to their area representatives expressing the borough’s opposition to the tolling of Interstate 80.
Outgoing council member Joan Robinson McMillen read from the prepared letter, which will be sent to state Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 Houtzdale and state Sen. Joe Scarnatti, R-25 Brockway.
“I-80 is our economic artery,” read McMillen.

Dept. of Aging Computer Stolen, Information on Clearfield County Clients at Risk
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, is alerting citizens about the theft of a state computer containing personal information of county residents and changes affecting initial unemployment compensation claims.
“A state Department of Aging notebook computer containing confidential information of Clearfield County residents was stolen Dec. 5 in Johnstown,” George said. “The state agency is taking precautions and no evidence exists that the information is being used inappropriately. However, Department of Aging clients should be especially alert for fraud.”

Death Investigation Complete on Brockway Man Found in DuBois
DUBOIS – The DuBois City Police Department has completed the death investigation of Brockway resident James R. Morris.
The 29-year-old Morris was lying near a sidewalk near Olive Avenue on Nov. 24. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the indeed lying in the grass unresponsive.

Wesdock Appointed to Clearfield Area School Board
CLEARFIELD – Four community members attended the Clearfield Board of Directors meeting Monday evening seeking appointment as the replacement for the two year term vacated by Tim Morgan. Seeking appointment by letter and not in attendance was Ralph Lingle.
In attendance were Josh Quigley, Mary Anne Wesdock, Joseph Kane and Rick Schickling. After each in attendance addressed the Board those nominated for the appointment were Lingle, Wesdock and Schickling. Current directors voted and Wesdock was appointed as the newest Director immediately joining the table.
Wesdock is the current Director of the Clearfield County Assessment Office & Tax Claim Bureau.

Wal-Mart Tax Appeal Discussed at Lawrence Township Supervisor’s Meeting
CLEARFIELD – Wal-Mart’s decision to appeal their assessed value at their Supercenter was a topic of discussion at the Lawrence Township Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday.
According to an earlier GantDaily article, Wal-Mart is $6.8 million value placed upon their property located on state Route 879. Believing their property should be valued at $4.6 million Wal-Mart is seeking a lowered valuation.
