Clearfield Borough Awarded Grants for Fire, Police Departments

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Police Department and Clearfield Fire Department were awarded grants to help in their operations.

Clearfield Borough Mayor Patty Gilliland announced that the fire department was awarded $25,000, and the police department was awarded $10,000.

The fire department grant money will be used to purchase energy efficient, fire resistant doors; energy efficient garage doors; equipment storage racks for rescue equipment; and repaving and resealing the friveway.

The grant request for the police department fell short of the near-$25,000 requested. That amount would have been used for energy efficient windows, repairs at the station, an energy efficient garage door, protective equipment and other items.

Gilliland said that they will just have to determine what to get with the $10,000.

She thanked Bill Armstrong for helping the borough by putting the grant requests together.

“Bill has been outstanding helping with the grants,” said Gilliland.

Gilliland also thanked the borough’s area representatives. The grants were made available through state Rep. Camille “Bud” George’s, D-74 Houtzdale, and state Sen. Joe Scarnatti’s, R-25 Brockway offices.

The borough also received a $5,000 grant from George’s office for the purchase of playground equipment.

“And my sincerest gratitude to out representatives paying attention to out needs and helping when they were able to at the time of the requests,” said Gilliland.
