Two Men Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Money from Informant, Third Man Missing

PHILIPSBURG – Two men were arrested after allegedly working together to steal money from a confidential information during a staged drug buy.

State police in Philipsburg reported that 31-year-old Joseph Guy of Philipsburg and 21-year-old Justin Lair of Morrisdale were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Allen Sinclair on Tuesday.

Guy was charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. Lair was charged with criminal conspiracy. A third man, a 26-year-old Morrisdale resident, is also alleged to have helped in the crime. He is being charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. He has not yet been taken into custody and his whereabouts are unknown.

According to the police report, members of the Troop G Vice and Narcotics unit were involved in an undercover investigation involving the distribution of controlled substances. Troopers sent a confidential informant to a location in Philipsburg Borough with $75 to make a purchase. The three accused men arrived at the scene and the money was reportedly forcibly removed from the informant.

Both men were released on bail.

Preliminary hearings for Guy and Lair are scheduled for Dec. 19 at 8:30 a.m. at the Centre County Courthouse.
