Charges Pending Against Two Juveniles in Rowles Furniture Fire
CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department announced that charges are pending against two juveniles who admitted to starting the fire in a box truck outside of Rowles Family Furniture on Nov. 23.
According to police the two kids were interviewed in relation to the fire. Both admitted to starting the fire accidentally that morning and leaving the truck.

Curwensville Wins Flood Control Grants Totalling $42,000
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County announced that Curwensville Borough has won approval of two flood-protection grants totaling $42,000.
“The larger grant – $33,810 – will be used to buy a boom mower to maintain vegetative growth along Tanners Run, which empties into Anderson Creek and the West Branch of the Susquehanna River via a channel through the borough,” George said. “The second grant of $8,190 will be used to remove sediment and debris from the channel.”

Fatal Accident Reported in Brockway
BROCKWAY – DuBois-based state police reported a fatal accident that occurred in Brockway Borough on Thursday morning.
According to police a 17-year-old Brockway boy was traveling south on Clay Plant Road on the right lane when he lost control of his vehicle after exiting a right hand curve. He traveled off the west shoulder and struck a utility pole. The vehicle then overturned onto its roof.

Local Man Pleads Guilty in Attorney General Case
CLEARFIELD – A former Curwensville video store owner originally charged with insurance fraud pleaded guilty to a criminal attempt to commit theft by deception.
Ricardo “Rick” Girardi of Curwensville was fined $1,000 and sentenced to three years in a restrictive intermediate punishment program, two months of which will be served as house arrest. He was also ordered to complete 50 hours of community service by the Honorable Paul E. Cherry.
Girardi formerly owned Video Stars in Curwensville.

River Hill Project gets Big Boost
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, today said the massive $550 million electric plant proposed in northeastern Clearfield County has won state backing of tax-exempt bonds of up to $600 million.
“The bond-allocation approval means Pennsylvania means business and is investing in the waste-coal-fire generating plant that will provide power and jobs for years to come,” George said. “Site preparations are almost complete, and the state’s financial support for the River Hill Power Company plant clears the way for the needed private financing.”

DuBois City Council Approves 2008 Budget
DUBOIS – The planned budget for 2008 was revealed at the DuBois city council meeting last Tuesday. The planned year end revenue of fiscal year 2008 is $3,609,207. Projected expenditures being $3,584,478 will leave a surplus of $24,729. Also cost of Patterson avenue work was announced.
With the change in how the EMS tax works the council wanted to “hold the line”. Being the first year under the new quarterly payout system the city would only receive three quarter’s worth of the funding 2008 than in proceeding years.

DuBois City Police Investigating Death of Brockway Man
DUBOIS – The DuBois City Police Department is investigating the death of Brockway resident James R. Morris.
On Nov. 24 at 12:22 a.m. the DuBois City Police Department was dispatched to the first block of Olive Avenue for a man lying in the grass next to a sidewalk. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the indeed lying in the grass unresponsive.

Clearfield Man Sentenced to State Prison for Possession of Child Porn
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man was sentenced to state prison on Tuesday by the Honorable Judge Paul E. Cherry.
Bobby Joe Bowes pleaded guilty to dissemination photo or film of child sex acts. He was sentenced to one-to-five years in a state correctional institution. He was ordered to complete the Project Point of Light Program upon his release, is to refrain from the use or possession of alcohol and must submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250. He is also prohibited from possessing or accessing any device that could give him Internet access.
