Stott Tabbed as Clearfield Borough Operations Manager

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough’s search for a borough operations manager appears to be at an end.

Following an executive session to discuss the issue during the Clearfield Borough Council’s committee meeting, Mike Errigo, personnel committee chairperson, recommended a borough resident for the position.

Personnel committee members voted to recommend Leslie Stott as their candidate for the position to council at their regular meeting Nov. 15.

LT Police Bust Alleged Drug Dealers After Traffic Stop

CLEARFIELD – A routine traffic stop led the arrests of two people and the seizure of $4,500 worth of heroin by the Lawrence Township Police Department.

According to the report, two people were originally detained following the traffic stop for being suspected of drug possession. Officers located 15 stamped packs of heroin on one person in the vehicle.

Public Questions Tolling I-80 at Public Meeting

CLEARFIELD – The atmosphere was anything but happy at a public meeting on Wednesday evening regarding the proposed tolling of Interstate 80.

The meeting was held at Clearfield High Area High School by the group chosen by Gov. Edward G. Rendell to handle the tolling project on I-80, the Penna Turnpike Commission. The PTC held a recent meeting with members of the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce to discuss the I-80 Project.

Clearfield Borough 2008 Budget Results in no Tax Increases

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough residents can look forward to no tax increases next year.

That’s according to the borough’s proposed 2008 budget. Council members were pleased with the budget, as was one of their employees.

“We’ve made great strides,” said Pam Peters, Clearfield Borough secretary.

AG’s Office Announces Arrests in Alleged Cocaine, Heroin Ring in Clearfield County

HARRISBURG – A large-scale cocaine and heroin distribution ring operating in Clearfield Borough has been broken-up resulting in the arrest of 10 out of 11 suspected drug dealers, one with ties to the Bronx, New York.

Attorney General Tom Corbett said the arrests are the result of a nine-month long investigation into the alleged drug trafficking organization of Gabriel Greenidge, 22, originally from Bronx, New York. Greenidge allegedly began selling drugs in Clearfield Borough as early as 2004.

State Sen. Scarnatti Discusses I-80 Project at Breakfast

DUBOIS – State Sen. Joe Scarnatti, R-25 Brockway, spoke before a nearly full house at the DuBois Country Club Friday morning.

He touched on a number of issues facing Pennsylvanians, including the proposed merger of Highmark Blue Cross and Independence Blue Cross, illegal immigration and the state’s budget.

One issue was on the mind of most gathered: the proposed tolling of Interstate 80.

No Property Tax Increase for Sandy Township Residents

DUBOIS – According to the preliminary budget, Sandy Township residents will not face a property tax increase.

The budget consists of liquid fuels funds in the amount of $960,000, a general fund of $3,282,058 and a municipal fund of $1,981,000.

The budget will now be put on display for 20 working days.

New Board of Commissioners? 71 Precincts Counted, Election Results Available

CLEARFIELD – All 71 precincts in Clearfield County have been counted and the results are in.

As it stands now, Mark McCracken, John Sobel and Joan Robinson McMillen will be the next board of Clearfield County Commissioners. McCracken received 8,348 votes, Sobel 8,190 and McMillen 7,461. Incumbent Rex Read received 7,197 votes.

Incumbent William A. Shaw Jr. defeated opponent Gary Knaresboro for the position of Clearfield County District Attorney. Shaw received 10,163 votes, Knaresboro 6,517.

LT Supers Approve Tentative Budget, Enact Local Services Tax

CLEARFIELD – Residents of Lawrence Township will not see a property tax increase in 2008.

The Lawrence Township Supervisors approved the tentative 2008 budget, which did not incluce a property tax increase. The supervisors did enact the local services tax in the amount of $52. This will affect workers within Lawrence Township who make over $12,000. Anyone making $12,000 or less is exempt from the tax.
