Charges Waived in Burglary-Stolen Car-Accident Case

DUBOIS – A Rockton man remains in Clearfield County Jail after waiving his right to preliminary hearings for cases stemming from two Oct. 17 incidents.

Brent R. Clinton, 23, is charged with entering the home of a Sandy Township family at about 7 a.m. Oct. 17. One of the home’s residents confronted Clinton outside, and Clinton said he was looking for the home of his grandparents, but he was lost. He also reportedly gave a false name to the resident.

Then, about two hours later, DuBois City Police received a report of a hit-and-run while looking for a suspicious person in the area of Spring Avenue and Love Street.

When police arrived at the scene of the accident, a woman described the vehicle that hit her. She also told officers that the vehicle that hit her was traveling south on South Main Street when it traveled onto the curb and then crossed into the opposite lane and struck her vehicle. The driver of that vehicle continued traveling south on South Main Street.

Sandy Township Police were then advised to be on the lookout for the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident.

Officers located the vehicle in question along Lincoln Parkway in a driveway. The owner of the home where the car was parked said she had never seen the vehicle before. While officers were at Lincoln Parkway, a call was received from Clearfield County Control stating that a vehicle was stolen in DuBois City.

At about the same time police were impounding the vehicle, officers were notified that Sandy Township Police and state police apprehended a suspicious male at the intersection of U.S. Route 322 and U.S. Route 119. The man was reported to have fit the description of the suspicious person for whom police were searching in the Spring Avenue area.

After being advised of his rights, court documents state that Clinton allegedly admitted to attempting to get into several houses and actually entering one. He said he got into a vehicle that did not belong to him. Clinton also allegedly admitted to crashing the car into another car on South Main Street.

Police noticed that Clinton was exhibiting signs of drug and/or alcohol use during the interview, and he reportedly said that he was a heroin addict and had “injected numerous bags of heroin” from the night of Oct. 16 to the morning of Oct. 17.

Clinton faces numerous charges in the two cases, including burglary and driving under the influence.

He is being held in lieu of $50,000 straight bail for both cases.
