HYDERABAD, India – Army Specialist Timothy R. Taylor, a 2000 Clearfield Area High School graduate wrestling at 264.5 pounds for the U.S. Armed Forces freestyle team, won his first bout but lost in the quarterfinals Saturday at the Fourth CISM Military World Games.
According to USA Wrestling writer Van Stokes, Taylor dominated Fernando Mkk of Sri Lanka 6-0 and 7-0 with two gut wrenches in the first period and three in the second period for exposure points.
In the next round at 120 kilograms, crowd favorite Chanderpal of India defeated Taylor 4-2 and 2-1.
Stokes wrote that Chanderpal took Taylor to his back for a 3-0 lead in the first period. Taylor countered with a takedown and leg lace to make it a 3-2 bout before Chanderpal notched his second takedown.
Taylor fell behind 1-0 in the second period when he was driven out of bounds. He got even with a takedown, but Chanderpal drove him out of bounds with four seconds left for the deciding point.
Chanderpal\’s loss to eventual silver medalist Recap Kara of Turkey in the semifinals cost Taylor a chance to wrestle in the repechage. The India heavyweight then fell to Serhii Priadun of Ukraine in one of the two bronze medal matches.
The Fourth Military World Games ended Sunday night with a spectacular four-hour ceremony watched by more than 40,000 spectators in Balayogi Stadium that included a parade of more than 5,000 athletes from 107 countries.
