Pet Expo to Include Exhibit to Jail Michael Vick

CLEARFIELD – Patrons of the Mountain Laurel Kennel Club’s Pet Expo, set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Expo II at the Clearfield Driving Park, can help create a fund for abused and neglected animals’ emergency medical expenses by building a symbolic jail cell around a Michael Vick jersey.

Segments of cell “bars” will be sold for $1 to encase the red No. seven jersey in the 4-foot square. Donors can sign an autograph page that will be added to the MLKC archives. Organizers hope to raise at least $500 to establish the project, which will be a sister resource to the Limit the Litters Fund available to animal control officers in Clearfield County.

“Dog fighting is just one form of animal cruelty but the actions of Mr. Vick and his associates galvanized our nation and created awareness even among non-animal lovers. We are capitalizing on what has become a symbol for the mistreatment of animals,” said MLKC member Beth Fulesday Hallstrom.

Hallstrom noted educational materials featuring 10 Ways to Prevent Animal Cruelty from Annemarie Lucas of the Animal Planet show, “Animal Precinct,” will also be available.

In other expo news, there will be a Parade of Adoptable and Rescued Animals at 10:45 a.m. Any visitors to the event who were rescued pets are encouraged to join in and show off their forever families. Organizers also noted the rabies clinic for dogs and cats is from 10 a.m. to noon and that the obedience demonstration will be at 1 p.m., not noon as reported earlier.
