LT Supers Sign Letter of Intent, Discuss Ways to Work with Clearfield Borough

CLEARFIELD – Close to one week after taking part in a meeting with members of Clearfield Borough Council on how the two municipalities could work together, the Lawrence Township Supervisors signed a letter of intent and approved drafting another letter to send to the borough.

At the joint meeting on Sept. 27, the two municipalities discussed the possiblities of consolidating their police forces and fire companies to save money and better help the public. One of the early steps in that process would be for the municipalities to sign letters of intent for the Local Government Services Office. That office will then come in and investigate the fire companies and police forces to determine what steps each could take in becoming better.

Bill Lawhead, chairman of the Lawrence Township Supervisors, said that Lawrence Township Police Chief Jeff Fink implemented many of the recommendations that were given the last time they had a consultant come in.

Lawhead discussed a strategy the two municipalities could use to better utilize their compost sites. Lawhead recommended that Clearfield Borough take all of the leaves from the two municipalities to their site, while the township accept all the compostable material that is shreddable from both municipalities to their site. The supervisors then approved drafting a letter with those recommendations and sending them to Clearfield Borough Council.

“I like to see us working together,” said Clearfield Borough Council member Mike Errigo, who was present at Wednesday’s township meeting.
