Downed Tree in Kylertown Causes Power Outage

KYLERTOWN – A tree that fell down near Pierce Hollow Rd. in Kylertown caused power to be interrupted for Penelec customers Tuesday afternoon.

According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, just after 3:30 Tuesday afternoon the tree contacted the main 34,500-volt power line which runs between Philipsburg and Snow Shoe. Radio controlled switching was performed by Penelec dispatchers to isolate the problem. During the switching, customers experienced momentary and short duration interruptions. Approximately 1000 customers were affected for about three and one half hours.

Penelec crews patrolled the line and found the downed tree about 1 mile north of the I-80 Kylertown exit. Crews then were able to manually isolate the problem area and restore power to all but four customers at 7 p.m. Tree crews removed the downed tree and the line was repaired. The remaining 4 customers were restored at 10 p.m.

Penelec reminds customers to treat all downed wires as energized and dangerous. Do not approach or try to move downed wires. Please call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-478-8465) to report downed wires and power outages.
