Jail Literacy Program Receives $5,000 Donation

CLEARFIELD – Irish writer and politian Sir Richard Steele once said, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”

A Clearfield County man who volunteered his time at the Clearfield County Jail teaching literacy will ensure that inmates there have plenty of free weights for the mind.

Marie Riley, widow of Wallace “Bill” Riley, provided a $5,000 gift to the literacy program at CCJ.

Bill Riley died in March.

“He loved it and thought he earned the respect and admiration of those at the prison and even the men he was teaching,” the commissioners read Tuesday in a letter from Marie Riley.
