Union Training Program Accepting Applications

HARRISBURG, Sept. 14 – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said the Laborers’ District Council of Western Pennsylvania is accepting apprenticeship applications from area residents for its Building and Heavy/Highway Program.

“No job guarantees come with the training opportunity, but it could lead to construction jobs with good wages and benefits,” George said. “Being well-versed in technology is crucial when contractors are seeking skilled laborers to complete a job effectively and efficiently.”

Applications are available at area CareerLink offices or online at the District Council’s Web site. Information packets are available by calling 800-442-8868 toll free.

Applicants will be selected by an independent organization. Employment, when provided, will be through the Laborers’ District Council of Western Pennsylvania office as provided in collective bargaining agreements.

Applicants must submit a non-refundable, $25 processing fee by certified check or money order with their application. Applicants also must be at least 18, have a high school or general equivalency degree and have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.

The Western Pennsylvania Laborers’ Education and Training Center is located in Saxonburg, Butler County.
